What is Smart Transport?

Smart Transport - Building blocks to a better future

SmartTransport is a partnership formed to coordinate the land transport development in the Western Bay of Plenty sub-region of New Zealand.

SmartTransport is a key component of SmartGrowth, the organisation tasked with managing growth in the Western Bay of Plenty sub-region. While SmartTransport coordinates planning and delivery of improved transport infrastructure, SmartGrowth ensures this is integrated with land use planning and development of other infrastructure.

NZ Transport Agency

The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) is a Crown entity established on August 1, 2008, bringing together the functions of Land Transport New Zealand and Transit New Zealand to provide an integrated approach to transport planning, funding and delivery. The NZTA contributes to an integrated, safe, responsive and sustainable land transport system, in support of the updated New Zealand Transport Strategy.

 

 

Tauranga City Council

Tauranga City Council is the territorial local authority which includes Tauranga, Mt Maunganui and Papamoa. The council manages, maintains and develops local roads (excluding state highways) on behalf of its residents and ratepayers.

 

Western Bay of Plenty District Council

Western Bay of Plenty District Council is the territorial local authority adjacent to Tauranga and Mt Maunganui. The district stretches from Te Puke in the southeast to Katikati and Waihi Beach in the northwest. The council manages, maintains and develops local roads (excluding state highways) on behalf of its residents and ratepayers.


Environment Bay of Plenty

Environment Bay of Plenty is responsible for planning and providing public transport services across the Bay of Plenty region, and preparing and administering the Regional Land Transport Strategy outlining future development of all modes of land transport in the region.
